Thangka Art and Meditation Retreat - 4-13th September 2025

Dear friends,

This September we will be hosting a very special and unique retreat experience in Portugal.

Retreat date - 4th - 13th September 2025
Venue - Brahma Vihara, North Portugal
Group size - max 12 people

During his rehabilitation from brain trauma over the last few years, Burgs found that engaging in art, calligraphy and various other crafts extremely helpful in resetting his system from a 'fight or flight' mode to one which was more settled and grounded. His experiences with this has inspired him to put together this unique retreat.

The thangka painting will be hosted by famous thangka painter Carmen Mensink. Burgs will be giving guided meditations and discourses to help connect to the significance of this creative work.

Carmen will take students through the very basics of Buddhist sacred geometry, learning to draw the face of the Buddha, and then moving onto drawing the body. This is a step by step process and no drawing or artistic experience is necessary.

And with Burgs, we will incorporate the attitude of devotion into our meditation and explain how it helps us to align more deeply to the Dharma. As such, this is a rare and special opportunity to incorporate there two aspects of spiritual practice.
