Dear friends, I am sorry that I haven't been in contact with you all more over recent weeks. We have been very busy getting our new retreat space set up. But we are now up and running and I have have a little more time. I have been reflecting much over the last couple of months about why it was I had to unpublish so much of the material I had shared over recent years and how sad I felt about that when now seems to be such an important time to be offering support, guidance, inspiration and love. I know many people are finding life just as challenging now as they did during the pandemic. Perhaps some of you even more so. I am aware that the Dharma is challenging and that many do not agree with its basic principles of accountability, virtue and kindness and generosity as the fundamental and necessary building blocks of a happy and contented life. Whether that be at a personal, relationship, family, community or global level. I know I have spoken out strongly in the past about how I feel that the departure from these principles in favour of competitiveness and consumerism is the root cause of many of the problems we face as humanity now and that doing so has brought me much criticism. As a Dharma teacher I am aware how delicate is the balance that needs to be struck, and as I came under increasing attack for some of the things I was saying I felt that the only way that I could continue to teach was if I stopped commenting in the public domain about these things. I was aware that to do so in some ways felt like conceding defeat, but my health had suffered greatly and I needed to step back for a while. That said I still stand by some of the fundamental principles of the Dharma that I was trying to share within a more mainstream context. Not only that I do strongly believe that the Dharma offers us a treasure trove of important and valuable guidance in times like these. We desperately need to learn how to take better care of ourselves, each other and our planet. I have since started to gradually republish some of the material I had shared over previous years through my Patreon group. This offers a degree of protection since it is a community of people who have are genuinely engaged. I am also tentatively republishing material again on YouTube and working on some new material currently which will be available on Spotify in the coming months. With our next “Energetics of Spiritual self-care" online retreat coming up this weekend I felt to reach out to you all with a little encouragement. The importance of taking proper care of ourselves and those around us is as great now as it has ever been. As is the importance of kindness and generosity and our connection to the sacred in life. So with this message I am sharing two of the pieces I took down from YouTube after my brain trauma. As we head into Summer, I sincerely hope that they might give you a little motivation and inspiration in a quiet moment to take care of yourselves with genuine love. Shine your light brightly in these challenging times as we question seriously the values by which we might be living life well. Wherever you may be and whatever are your plans over the summer, I wish that you may all be happy and find joy. I look forward to spending this coming weekend with some of you and if you wish to join you still may (see below). This retreat can be used as a standalone module that will help prepare you for the summer holiday season, or help support your deeper meditation practice. You may also like to invite friends and family members who you think might benefit, but please bare in mind is it deep work and can bring up challenging issues to process. |
Dear friends, I thought would write personally to you this month with a brief update on what's been happening and what's coming up at AoM. We have just finished our first Thangka Drawing and Devotional practices retreat in Portugal. It was a really special and unique event and something I will definitely be repeating next year as it gave me an opportunity to share teachings that I don't often have the chance to share. The combination of devotion, art and meditation proved to be a profoundly...
