Autumn / Winter Retreat Programme & free guided meditation

Dear friends,

Now that summer is in full swing, we would like to update you on our schedule for the rest of the year at our amazing new retreat venue, Brahma Vihara, in Portugal.

One aspect to the vision behind opening this dedicated retreat centre is to create new opportunities to work in a more intimate environment than our large UK based retreats can offer. In particular we are hoping to appeal to those wishing to connect and develop a deeper connection to their practice and the healing journey through meditation and other yogic and energy practices.

Our offerings at Brahma Vihara are designed to augment and further develop what we are able to offer in our UK based programme of retreats and workshops. An updated UK schedule will be released later this autumn.

We are also keen to encourage young people to come and volunteer and help out in the set up and development of the space in Portugal. Going forward there will be growing opportunities to participate in projects on the land and to help with the day to day running of Brahma Vihara. If you are under 35 and the idea of a supported or subsidised retreat stay with us in return for helping us develop the space appeals, please get in touch with us by email.

And at the end of this newsletter you will find a guided meditation which you can download and follow to help with your meditation practice during this month.

Tibetan Thangka Art and Meditation Retreat

This autumns' schedule starts off with a special “Tibetan Thangka Art and Meditation Retreat”. The retreat will be co-hosted by Carmen Mensink who will be sharing traditional Buddhist thangka drawing techniques, teaching you how to draw and paint the Buddha according to the traditional Tibetan system of sacred geometry. Burgs will be exploring and sharing the theme of devotional meditation and practice to support our drawing efforts. Central to this will be the idea of how through creativity and devotional meditation we can strengthen the depth of the refuge and support we get from the Buddha’s Dharma.

The Thangka Art Retreat starts in a few weeks, and dates are 4th - 13th September. More information can be found on this link -

Internal Alchemy Reset Retreat

Our second retreat this autumn is a special “Internal Alchemy Reset Retreat”.
A 7 day silent retreat exploring the disciplines of subtle energetic cultivation and healing. The focus will be on learning to connect to and work skilfully with our vital and subtle energies to bring healing and to refine and develop our meditation and spiritual practice. If this is something that calls to you, please get in touch with us or register for the retreat below.

The Internal Alchemy Reset Retreat dates are 11th-18th October.
More details and registration can be found on this link -

With the onset of winter we will be opening the space up to those wanting to practice more deeply for sustained periods of time, from November 2025 - March 2026.

Enhanced Meditation Research Study Group

Nov /Dec 2025 will be an opportunity to host our first “Enhanced Meditation Research Study”. This is a call out to any committed meditators to be part of our first research study group, exploring how using a set of neurological tools and consciousness supportive technology can augment our meditation practice and healing experiences.

This is an evolution of Burgs’ personal exploration of the field of neurological healing and restoration, neuro-plasticity and neurological enhancement, combining the use of cutting edge neuro-technology with meditation, internal alchemy, sleep and dream yoga, and breath work.

All interested are welcome to apply by registering initial interest by email.

Winter Long Retreat

Jan/Feb/Mar 2025 will be a time for long retreat. Periods of self-practice along with focused time with Burgs teaching the sharper insight for those who are seeking support with more advanced practice of insight and concentration. This winter he will also be exploring in more depth aspects of Dzogchen.

For any of you who are experienced meditators, please register your interest now, and when we open registration we can start to look at how to form appropriate groups.

This is a great opportunity for those who have not been on a longer retreat as yet, but would like to start exploring this to deepen their practice. All interested are welcome to apply by registering initial interest by email.

Free guided meditation and discourse - The importance of mental training in subtle energy work, internal alchemy and healing

On the theme of Internal Alchemy, Burgs has shared a short talk and guided meditation which discuses why we would chose to train our mind, and make the effort to 'turn the mind around'. The guided meditation steers us towards resting in dan tien, the core energy centre of our body.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer and looking forward to seeing some of you later this year.

Dear friends, I thought would write personally to you this month with a brief update on what's been happening and what's coming up at AoM.
